Where’s the Buzz: Winfrey & Angelina are the world’s hottest celebrities

Talk show diva Oprah Winfrey is the world’s most powerful celebrity for the second year running, according to Forbes magazine. Golfer Tiger Woods & Hollywood heavyweight Angelina Jolie has bagged the second & third places respectively.
Forbes Methodology:
The Celebrity 100 measures power, which boils down to two components: money and fame. Earnings estimates are for June 2007 to June 2008. We included income from endorsements, movies or other ventures only if the celebrity has been paid, applying the same rules to entertainment-related ventures. Management, agent and attorney’s fees have not been deducted. Figures were rounded off where appropriate. Sources include Billboard, Pollstar, Adams Media Research, Nielsen SoundScan, Nielsen BookScan and SNL Kagan. How do we “calculate” fame? From Web hits on Google Blog Search, TV/radio mentions on LexisNexis, overall press mentions on Factiva and the number of times a celebrity’s image appeared on the cover of 55 consumer magazines.
The top 10 most powerful celebrity for 2008 & their personal earnings :
1. Oprah Winfrey,$275 million
2. Tiger Woods, (Golfer),$115 million
3. Angelina Jolie, (Actress),$14 million
4. Beyoncé Knowles, (Singer),$80 million
5. David Beckham, $50 million
6. Johnny Depp, (Actor),$72 million
7. Jay-Z, (Rapper),$82 million
8. The Police,(Rock Group), $115 million
9. J.K. Rowling, $300 million
10. Brad Pitt,(Actor) ,$20 million
Something interesting to observe here. Despite weakening television ratings and magazine circulation, Winfrey earned $275 million, which in a way secured her top position. On the other hand, Jolie maintains a commendable influence on the blogosphere over Winfrey & Woods, which helped her in grabbing the third position.
Its really great to witness the power of social media.

Oprah Winfrey a world celebrity? on the other side of the Atlantic pond (I mean, in Europe), her name is virtually unheard of. Also Woods is a name only in countries where golf has a following, and there are not so many as you would believe. Do not confuse them with celebrities like Jolie or The Police that have a much more global following.
