I have a very complex social network. I loved your ideas of having a sense of who I'm most active with, because it would give me a sense of where my attention lies, and might also prompt me to contact people with whom my contact has grown a little cooler of late.

I also liked the "who started this" idea, because that would suggest what I do or don't know about the relationship's boundaries.

Great post. Thank you for this.

No'am, I think you are right.
MySpace provides artists a unique stage that Facebook is not yet ready to allow.

MySpace is for music. If you're an artist, you put up a MySpace page with your songs.

Even people like me, who have their own website that plays their songs much better than the MySpace player, have to set up a MySpace page to start getting some online exposure for their music.

So if FaceBook wants to eliminate the need for MySpace, they should allow music player applications on pages - preferrably with autoplay enabled. At the moment, even if you set up a media player on your Facebook profile, they eliminate the automatic playing.

Nice blog post. The social networking habitat is a still a messy environ.

Finding clever ways to integrate these ideas into social networks of today could greatly improve the social friending process. I especially like the weighting.

I find that friends tend to stick to certain subject matters amongst a specific circle of the contacts. It would be nice to aggregate this into a social entity so I could browse these circles and pick out new, interesting voices.
